Raquel Jennings

Raquel Jennings is an actress and singer originally from Philadelphia, PA and now living in Baltimore, MD. She earned her B.A. and M.A. in Music from Morgan State University. While at Morgan, Raquel sang as a soloist and in chorus in multiple countries. She has performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under Marin Alsop and as a soloist with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra under Julien Benichou. Raquel has been in operas such as Porgy and Bess at Morgan State University and Aida with the Annapolis Opera company as well as a host of other opera concerts. In addition, she has had the pleasure to perform in New York’s Carnegie Hall on several occasions with both MSU choir and The Carter Legacy Singers.

In 2014, Raquel made her musical theatre debut in Jesus Christ Superstar with ArtsCentric and fell in love! She went on to appear as Nettie in The Color Purple and has since done numerous shows with ArtsCentric. She has been blessed to work at other regional theatres including Baltimore Center Stage, Signature Theatre, Arena Stage, and upcoming at The Kennedy Center. Earlier this year, she originated the role of Jacqui Minton in the World Premiere of Grace the musical at Ford’s Theatre. You may have seen her recently in The Color Purple at Signature Theatre.

Some of her favorite musical theater credits are Ragtime (Sarah), Dreamgirls (Lorrell), and The Last 5 Years (Cathy) and Little Shop of Horrors (Chiffon). Raquel will be returning to Ford’s Theatre in Spring 2023 in another new musical, Shout Sister Shout!

Jadion Jones

Jadion Jones is a recent visual and performing arts graduate from Daemen University. Her passion for teaching theatre comes from the lack of guidance she received as a theatre student. She is grateful to Encore for giving her a job in her field so quickly after graduating and hopes that she can be a great mentor to her students!

Quinn Sumerlin

Quinn is a rising freshman at Occidental college. She has been involved in many Encore shows such as Robin Hood, Ghostchasers, and The Tempest. She’s excited to be back as a counselor at Encore for another summer!

Annabel Mudge

Annabel Mudge is rising senior at the College of William & Mary. She is studying government and hopes to become a middle school teacher. She loves musical theatre, singing in her a cappella group, and crocheting. She looks forward to spending her summer with Encore as an Education Intern!

Austin Sumerlin

Austin is a rising freshman at Davidson College.  He has attended his sister’s many Encore performances: his favorite was Robin Hood.  He is excited to be joining Encore himself this summer as a counselor!

Rhea Mallery

Camp Counselor

Rhea Mallery is a high school student with a passion for theatre and learning. Rhea has worked as an actor in multiple performances, starring as Clarence the Angel in “It’s a Wonderful Life” as well as Savage Chorus Leader in Washington Liberty’s production of “Medea”. She has also worked on sound editing, set construction, and musical theatre in her highschool career. This will be her first season working with Encore, and she is excited to be a part of such an inspiring community!

Olivia Tate

Teaching Artist
Olivia Tate currently works as a Government and IB Social and Cultural Anthropology Teacher at Marshall High School. In addition to teaching, Olivia also coaches Freshmen Girls Basketball for Marshall and helps out with directing for Marshall’s theatre program. She directed/wrote a devised piece with five Marshall students called “Edit Profile” last year that won first place at the Sectional level and was the runner-up at the Regional level at the Virginia High School League 2021 competition. This year Olivia assistant directed A Midsummer’s Night Dream (Fall 2021) and A Year of Frog and Toad (Spring 2022) at Marshall. Olivia is excited to return to one of her homes, Encore, for another summer and hopes to get her hands dirty (in a fun and constructive way)!”

Nikki Amico

Teaching Artist
Nikki Amico (she/her) is an actor and teaching artist based in NYC and DC. Since graduating from NYU Tisch with a BFA in Drama, she has taught theatre classes and camps across the NYC and DC areas, and on computer screens across the country! Currently, she is performing Off-Broadway in “The Raven” with Soft Brain Theatre Company. She is excited to return to her roots in the DMV and continue building up the next generation of creative thinkers and artists.

Sydney Payne

Camp Counselor

Sydney Payne is a rising 11th grader at Alexandria City High School. She has been involved with Encore for many years and is so excited to be a part of their summer camp program. Some of her past Encore shows include Enchanted Bookshop Christmas (Margie), Frozen Jr. (Sven), Flip the Script: The Day That Nothing Happened (New Girl), Newsies, The Lion King Jr. (Young Nala), and The Music Man (Gracie Shinn). She was most recently involved in her high school’s production of Little Shop of Horrors as Crystal. Outside of theater Sydney enjoys playing soccer, swimming, and reading.

Katrina Nelson

Katrina Nelson is a rising senior at HB Woodlawn with many years of theatre under her belt. She loves being involved in all aspects of theatre, dabbling in acting, tech, directing, and playwriting.
